The past couple of weeks have been so amazing that we couldn't imagine there would be any "wow" left. We were wrong.
We left Stan and Nancy's around 9:30 AM and headed south to Bakersfield where we met up with Don and Betty. We traveled in tandem on our journey to Palm Desert. On the way we stopped for lunch and met Don and Betty's son and daughter-in-law Todd and Christy and their precious daughter Ashleigh who came into their lives miraculously just 12 weeks ago. It was as much fun to see Don and Betty's delight in their granddaughter as it was to meet their family.
Along the way we rode past Mt. San Jacinto where Jim worked on a State Park trail crew for a couple of summers when he was in college. He was sure he could see part of the trail he helped build. I suspect he was seeing with the eye of his memories.
As we neared Palm Desert we realized that in the last 24 hours the temperature had gone from the mid 60's in Pismo Beach to 111 degrees in Palm Desert. Wow! California continues to amaze us with its diverse climate and topography.
We arrived at the beautiful time share resort that Don and Betty have blessed us with in the late afternoon. It is a beautiful place looking out over a golf course. Betty insisted that we stay in the luxurious master suite. What a very special gift from very special friends.
We drove to Palm Springs for dinner where we ate outside in the warm evening and then strolled the art fair which ran the length of the main street.
We polished off the evening with a bowl of ice cream. Is their any better way to celebrate a wonderful day?
