Peaceful

We decided to stay two nights in Monterey and we are so glad we did. Not only do we love this place, but it allowed for a day of peacefulness with no, or at least little, driving involved.

We woke up to foggy skies, but by the time we were ready to go out, blue skies had quickly returned. Jim has been aching to get down on those rocks near the seashore and he was finally able to do so. We sat with Jim's binoculars at the edge of the shore for a couple of hours enjoying the antics of the seals and sea otters.

In the afternoon we took a short 4 mile drive south to Carmel. We have been there a few times previously but I had forgotten much of it (or maybe my memories are not accurate). It is an upscale art town with many, many expensive shops. It was interesting to see, but we both preferred the natural beauty of the morning in Monterey. It was very foggy in Carmel, but when we returned to Monterey the skies were still blue. Interesting how much difference there can be in just a 4 mile distance!

One of our former Pastors at our church at home moved to Monterey, so we thought we would check out the church. He wasn't there (he had just flown back to Michigan), but we met some very friendly people. Jim ended up helping to heft a very heavy carpet roll up a flight of stairs. That is the first "work" he has done in a month!

Tomorrow we will head towards Fresno. It is time to do some laundry, clean up the car a bit, and get ready for some more eagerly anticipated friend time.
