If I remember nothing else about this trip in the future, I pray I always remember last night, standing in Jim's arms on the balcony of our seaside room, hearing the crashing waves as we stood under a black velvet sky studded with millions of twinkling stars. It was ethereal.
We started our day with Highway 1. Just like the day previous day it was breathtaking, both in scariness and beauty. In the end beauty conquered. Highway 1 is off the bucket list. It did not cure my fear of heights and curves.
We were driving across the Golden Gate bridge still deciding how we wanted to spend the day in the area. We chose the Golden Gate park over the inner city and Fishermans Wharf and we still had thousands of people everywhere. We went through the botanical conservatory and Japanese Gardens. It was a beautiful day for a walk in the park.
We drove to Sunnyvale in hopes of seeing my niece, Laurel, but was not able to make phone contact. We finally left for Monterey and just five minutes down the road Laurel called. We turned around and had a short but good 30 minute visit. We were glad we were able to make the connection!
Tonight we are staying in Monterey in a hotel that was full and very expensive according to the desk clerk who took my call. Priceline came to the rescue. Apparently there was room in the inn and at a fraction of the cost!
Tomorrow we play on the shore.
