There is a certain sadness in saying goodbye when you are in the fourth quarter of life. We know the odds of reunion have diminished somewhat. But instead of lamenting what the future may hold, we celebrate the present and the good memories that were made.
We left Mom and Cora's around 9 AM. We headed down toward Portland, Oregon, still deciding on the route for the day. After nearly 2 hours of stop and roll traffic, and being hemmed in by Oregon Duck football fans we made a change in our route. We have never seen so much football traffic in our lives. It was like bring jammed in traffic in Grand Rapids, MI for a U of M game in Ann Arbor. While we admire their dedication to their team, we were frustrated with their drive! It took us 2 hours to go what should have been 30 minutes.
Our route change ended up being a blessing. We drove across a lovely small mountain range and ended up in the small coastal town of Newport. There was a seafood festival going on there so we stopped and wandered about for a bit. I loved all the fisherman's boats!
We turned onto Highway 101 and drove down the Oregon coast. The ocean views were absolutely breathtaking. I could have taken a thousand pictures and still not have done justice to the unfolding scenes.
We stopped in Coos Bay for the night and tomorrow will continue our journey southward down Highway 101.
